Artificial turf may look simple when it is finished, but most of the work that determines how well it performs is hidden underneath it.

A professional artificial turf installation involves much more than rolling out turf and securing the edges. Excavation, base preparation, grading, compaction, drainage, seams, infill, and finishing all play a part.

If you are considering artificial turf in Las Vegas, here is what actually goes into installing it correctly.

1. Preparing the Ground

A quality turf installation starts by removing the existing grass, soil, rock, or other material to create the proper installation depth.

How much needs to be removed depends on the existing yard, elevations, drainage, surrounding concrete or pavers, and the type of turf being installed.

This step creates room for the base that will support the turf.

2. Building the Base

The turf you see is only the top layer.

Underneath it is a compacted aggregate base that creates a firm and stable surface for the turf.

The base material is installed, spread, and prepared before final grading and compaction.

Skipping proper base preparation can lead to an uneven surface, low spots, movement, and other problems over time.

3. Grading and Compaction

Once the base is installed, it needs to be properly graded and compacted.

Grading creates the shape and elevation of the finished yard while helping water move in the intended direction.

Compaction creates a solid surface underneath the turf so the finished area feels firm and stays consistent.

This is one of the most important parts of artificial turf installation because problems underneath the turf are much harder to correct after the project is finished.

4. Choosing the Right Artificial Turf

Not all artificial turf is the same.

When comparing turf products, we look at:

Pile height: How tall the turf blades are.

Face weight: The amount of turf fiber in the product.

Blade shape: Affects appearance, feel, and how the blades stand.

Drainage: Especially important for pets and areas that receive water.

Color and feel: Determines how natural the finished turf looks and feels.

The right turf depends on the property and how the space will actually be used. A high traffic backyard may need something different than a decorative front yard or putting green.

5. Laying, Cutting and Seaming the Turf

Once the base is ready, the turf can be installed.

The turf is positioned with the correct grain direction, carefully cut around landscaping and hardscape, joined where necessary, and secured around the perimeter.

Good seams should be difficult to notice.

This is one of the areas where installation experience makes a major difference. Even an expensive turf product can look bad if the seams, cuts, grain direction, or edges are poorly installed.

6. Infill and Power Brooming

After the turf is secured, infill is applied across the surface.

Infill settles between the turf blades to provide support and stability. The turf is then power broomed to work the infill into the fibers and help lift the blades.

These final steps give the turf its finished appearance and help the entire installation feel complete.

How Much Does Artificial Turf Cost in Las Vegas?

Most professional artificial turf installations are priced by the square foot, but square footage is only part of the cost.

Pricing can change based on:

• Size of the project
• Access to the yard
• Existing landscape demolition
• Base preparation required
• Turf selection
• Edging and transitions
• Cuts and seams
• Overall site conditions

A typical All American Landscape turf installation is approximately $8 to $10 per square foot.

That is a general range, not a guaranteed price. Every property is different, and final pricing depends on the turf selected and the actual conditions of the project.

Why the Cheapest Turf Quote Is Not Always the Cheapest Option

When comparing artificial turf estimates, do not only compare the turf product or price per square foot.

Ask what is actually included underneath it.

How much excavation is being done? What base material is being installed? Is the base being properly compacted? How are the edges secured? How will seams be handled? Is infill included?

Those details may not be visible when the project is finished, but they can make a major difference in how the turf looks and performs over time.
