How much does it cost to landscape a new construction backyard in Las Vegas? See how we took a $20K backyard design and redesigned it around a $10K budget without sacrificing the most important features.

Buying a new construction home in Las Vegas is exciting, but there's one thing many homeowners quickly realize: the backyard is often a blank canvas.
No turf, no pavers, no plants. Just dirt and a block wall.
So how much does it actually cost to turn that empty backyard into something beautiful?
We're taking you behind the scenes of a real All American Landscape project where we designed two different backyards for the same homeowner. One around $20,000 and another around $10,000.
Same backyard. Same company. Two very different budgets.

We recently met with a homeowner here in Las Vegas who had purchased a new construction home and wanted to transform their backyard.
During our initial consultation, we met with the husband, discussed what they wanted, and went over different ideas for the space.
When we asked about the budget, there wasn't really a set number. They wanted to see what we could come up with and get some quotes.
So we got to work designing a backyard we were genuinely excited about.
And the designs ended up being one of our favorites.

Our original design focused on creating a modern outdoor space with premium materials, beautiful landscaping, and lighting that would make the backyard just as impressive at night.
It included:
Premium porcelain pavers for the covered patio and raised entertainment area
Artificial turf for a large, usable green space
Decorative river rock throughout the planting beds
23 plants, including larger evergreen shrubs, ornamental grasses, aloes, and flowering plants
Landscape lighting to highlight trees and focal plants
LED strip lighting around the raised porcelain deck for a floating appearance
A new drip irrigation system
Additional side yard paver improvements
The goal was to create something clean, modern, and functional while keeping the beautiful views beyond the backyard fence.

After sending over the original proposal, we heard back from the homeowner's wife.
Apparently, the budget conversation hadn't quite made it from husband to wife!
She explained that they were actually hoping to stay closer to $10,000.
We had a good laugh about it, but this is something we see all the time. Homeowners know what they want their backyard to look like, but aren't always sure what it will cost to get there.
Instead of starting completely over, we looked at the original design and figured out what we could change while keeping the features that mattered most.
The challenge was simple: How do we cut the budget nearly in half without making the backyard feel like half a project?

This is where smart landscape design makes a difference.
We didn't want to sacrifice the overall layout or functionality. Instead, we focused on material selections, plant sizes, and optional upgrades.

One of the biggest changes was switching from premium Benton Blanco porcelain to Durango concrete pavers.
Porcelain has a beautiful, modern appearance, but it comes at a higher price.
Concrete pavers still provide a durable, attractive surface while allowing us to keep the raised entertainment area and covered patio improvements.
The result: We maintained the overall hardscape design with a more budget friendly material.
Artificial turf was one feature we didn't want to eliminate.
The original design included a large turf area, and the revised design still includes approximately 360 square feet of premium Viridian Green artificial turf.
This gives the homeowners a functional green space that contrasts beautifully with the pavers and decorative rock.
The result: A backyard that still feels complete, with a large usable area instead of just rock and plants.

The original design included 23 plants, with larger specimen plants and more variety throughout the backyard.
For the revised design, we reduced the planting package to approximately 17 plants, using smaller plant sizes and a simpler selection.
We still included a mix of evergreen foliage, ornamental grasses, and colorful flowering shrubs.
By choosing the right plants and allowing them room to mature, we could create a beautiful landscape without filling every available space on day one.
The result: A cleaner planting design that can develop naturally over time.
One of our favorite details from the original design was the LED strip lighting around the raised porcelain deck.
It created a floating effect that looked incredible in the nighttime renderings.
But lighting was also one of the easiest areas to adjust without sacrificing the backyard's functionality.
For the revised proposal, we removed the decorative landscape lighting package and LED strip lighting.
These are features that can potentially be added in the future if the homeowners decide to upgrade.
The result: Significant savings while keeping the raised deck and overall backyard layout.

The original proposal also included additional improvements to the side yard walkway and optional upgrades.
For the revised design, we focused on completing the main backyard first.
This allowed us to prioritize the features the homeowners would enjoy most while keeping the project close to their target budget.

The biggest takeaway?
We kept the core design and changed the finishes and upgrades.
That is often the difference between a backyard that costs $10,000 and one that costs $20,000.
Our revised design still includes a raised paver entertainment area, covered patio pavers, artificial turf, decorative rock, colorful plants, and a new drip irrigation system.
The backyard is approximately 33 feet wide and 37 feet deep, with the house and covered patio occupying part of that space.
It's a great example of how thoughtful planning can make a smaller backyard feel much more usable.
And the best part? The homeowners approved the revised project, and we've started construction.
We'll be documenting the installation process and sharing the finished transformation.

Every property is different, but here are a few things to consider when planning your landscaping budget.
Start with how you'll use the space. Do you want a place for entertaining, a turf area for kids or pets, or a low maintenance backyard with plants and decorative rock?
Decide which upgrades matter most. Premium pavers, larger trees, retaining walls, and landscape lighting can make a big difference in appearance, but they also affect the overall cost.
Be realistic about your budget. Having a target number early helps your landscape designer recommend the right materials and features from the beginning.
Think about future improvements. You don't always have to complete every upgrade at once. A well planned backyard can leave room for additional features later.
